Synopsis:

A boat form, loosely interpreted in rusted steel. The construction is informed by basic CAD drawings that also mirror new ways of building radar-deflecting boats that have been built along the river. The archetypal boat form, rusted and incomplete refers to a dwindling heritage of boats yet the construction contains elements of present and future use. Using simple lines and forms, Stead’s sculptures and drawings tend to embody the extension from two to three dimensions. With a strong reliance on material and context, the work can be fragmentary, allowing a space for the imagination to complete or alter the work.
